2024–2031
Maryland's flagship Bordeaux-style blend — Boordy's barrel selection of its best red lots shows what Maryland reds can be.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Deep ruby with a garnet-tinged rim.
Aroma: Black cherry, cassis, and plum layered over cedar, vanilla, and a savory earthiness.
Palate: Medium-to-full bodied with fine, structured tannins — dark fruit at the core, graphite and dried herbs in the frame, and the balanced Mid-Atlantic acidity that keeps the wine fresh.
Finish: Long and polished, with dark fruit, oak spice, and a dusty mineral thread that lingers..
Food Pairings
Grilled lamb, roast duck, mushroom risotto, aged cheddar
About the Wine
Terra Maria is Boordy Vineyards' flagship red: a barrel selection of the estate's best Bordeaux-style lots, made only when the vintage allows. The 2021 benefited from a warm, even growing season in Maryland's Long Green Valley, giving the wine ripe dark fruit without losing its Atlantic-adjacent freshness.
About Boordy Vineyards
Boordy Vineyards in Hydes, Maryland is the state's oldest winery, with roots in the Long Green Valley dating to 1945. Eight decades on, it remains a benchmark for East Coast winemaking and the anchor of the Maryland wine industry.
The American Vine's Take
This is the kind of wine that argues for Maryland on the national stage — a light bodied Bordeaux-style blend with real structure and polish, and one of the most complete reds I have tasted from the state.
